No no you're right. People sometimes name things because they find the name funny to associate with the stuffed animal. If that is the particular case, then that in turn can make the name itself into a mockery, intentional or not.

I think there’s a much more simple explanation here. It’s already funny to name a stuffed animal a human name. If I brought you a teddy bear and told you his name was Paul. You’d think that was a little funny. I think the reason it’s funnier with black names it’s just cause it feels more specific. Actually because it’s so NOT dehumanizing. Something like Paul or John, or Dave is a common enough name, but a name like Tyrone is a name that has a very specific association. So the humor and the strangeness comes from the fact that you’re giving this silly stuffed animal a name tied to a very specific real world cultural identity. And I think this is proven by the fact you can do this pretty easily with white names too. For example, if I told you I had a stuffed animal named Reginald, that would be funny in much the same way that Malik is, because it gives you this image of uppity British aristocracy that seems pretty funny when applied to a silly stuffed animal

Ironically, when our ancestors picked easily identifiable names, it was because the children were being separated from their parents (a.k.a. kidnapping a.k.a. Trafficked) and if you had somebody who came from a different plantation, you could ask if anybody had heard that unique name. Thus allowing you to figure out where your child was and if they were safe.
