The worst kind of friendship fallout is when someone suddenly ambushes you with a list of every grievance they’ve apparently had against you for months or even years… grievances you had absolutely no idea existed because they never once communicated them to you. And then you find out that instead of coming directly to you, they’ve been discussing your flaws with the other friend in the group, building this whole narrative about how exhausted they are with you. And somehow it’s framed as, “We didn’t tell you because we were being considerate and understanding of everything you were going through.” But how is that considerate? How am I supposed to fix something I was never given the opportunity to know was hurting you? Then, after unloading all of these grievances onto me, I wasn’t even given the chance to explain my side or defend myself because apparently they “didn’t want to hear it” and “didn’t care.” And then I was told I would be blocked immediately. No conversation. No accountability. No apology. No opportunity for mutual understanding. Just: ‘Here is everything we think is wrong with you. You’re the problem. Goodbye.’ And tbh, that felt less like healthy closure and more like an emotional hit-and-run. And then they think that they’re the “mature” “kind” and “considerate” friends. I’m sorry, but avoiding every difficult conversation until you’ve built up enough resentment to unload it all on someone at once isn’t healthy communication. You can have legitimate grievances with someone. You can decide a friendship isn’t working anymore. You can walk away. But if you never communicate your hurt, privately discuss that person’s flaws with the other people involved, build a narrative about them, and then ambush them with the finished verdict while refusing to hear their side, you’re not giving the them an opportunity to understand. You’re giving them a sentence. And I think that’s the part that hurt me the most. Not that the friendship ended. It was the realisation that I thought we were having a friendship whilst apparently there was an entire conversation about me that I wasn’t part of. They became the judge, jury, and executioner. I guess I’m the villain?
