The fantasy visored barbute is far uglier than the actual barbute, in my opinion. As someone who appreciates historical accuracy, I have a strong dislike for the visored variant. The real barbute is far more functional and cleaner. It’s paired with clean plating versus the overlapping nightmare of armor the visored barbute always gets paired with. But that’s just me.

Kettle helmets were not war helmets. At best they were used for archers but otherwise the helmet was perfect for town guards because no one wants be in a sweaty ass visored helmet all day. They do not deserve the slander
