In the final season of THT there was a scene that showed June’s first time attending a birthing with Serena as Offred. It was a somewhat touching moment, seeing them both make faces and smirking at how dramatic the wife who was “giving birth” was acting as her Handmaid was pushing. But as I was watching it I felt soo eerie. Seeing Serena have those moments with June really reminds you that she likes to pick and choose when to be human. I haven’t read the books yet, but do they share similar moments at some point?

When my sister was in labor. Her sister in law and myself were coaching her through. We both took a break an hour in. We said to each other are you having labor pains too? I didn't know that could happen.

If the goal was to have as many children as possible why would they not have a proper c-section so the handmaid doesn't die and can have more children? why would they let a fertile woman die if she was 'following the rules'?

I recently read through the book and what really stood out to me about the Birth Days is that its the only time handmaids are allowed psychoactive substances. sometimes they'll break the rules (like Serena giving Offred a cigarette, or the commander giving her a gin and tonic(? I think it was a gin and tonic) at Jezebels) but outside of breaking the rules they aren't even allowed caffeine. so ofc theyre probably getting smashed on that spiked juice.

I had to go look up what is the smell of matrix, cuz I'm over here thinking the only matrix I know is the movie and couldn't imaging what a program could smell like. 😂 But here's what I found in case anyone else is confused or interested. Matrix = a set of conditions or environment in which something develops, i.e. "The smell is of our own flesh, an organic smell, sweat and a tinge of iron, from the blood on the sheet, and another smell, more animal, that's coming, it must be, from Janine: a smell of dens, of inhabited caves, the smell of the plaid blanket on the bed when the cat gave birth on it, once, before she was spayed. Smell of matrix."

honestly I'm kinda curious about the calendars and dates, i know women weren't allowed to have calendars, but did the girls knew their ages or birthdays? or the aunts were the ones in duty to keep the tracks of the plums? what about other dates like easter and Christmas?
