The central contradiction of the Green argument is their refusal to acknowledge the true nature of the Iron Throne. If we are talking about precedent, let’s look at Jaehaerys I. He bypassed both Aerea (the daughter of his elder brother) and Rhaenys (his own granddaughter) in favor of his own rule and his chosen heirs. No one called it “usurpation”then, they called it the “King’s will”, because in a monarchy, the King’s word is the law. The Greens love to cite the Great Council of 101 AC as if it were a democratic constitution, but they conveniently ignore that it was summoned by royal decree to validate the King's already existing will. If the King has the authority to settle a succession, he has the authority to name an heir and Viserys I did exactly that. To argue that “tradition” supersedes the King is to fundamentally misunderstand the Targaryen monarchy. Westeros is not a democracy; the King can make laws, unmake them, and define the line of succession as he sees fit.

what makes the continuous grasping of straws even more obvious is how the council and andal practices are directly contradictory. recognizing baelon as jahaerys' once heir contradicts their arguments as well. a decree isn't a "please" a decree isn't "what do you guys think?" a decree is a law. but vizzy just had to hand out dragons left and right giving the greens a symbol of legitimacy
