Darryl Vanalstyne :
It takes a lot of grit to look at a hard road and see a purpose instead of just loss. For a long time, starting from when I was just 13, I was caught up in drugs and only looking out for myself. I missed out on a lot of life. Now, things are completely different—I’m facing major physical challenges, I can’t walk or talk, and I’m dealing with disability.
But I don’t look at it as a loss. I know God has a plan for my life. If you believe with all your heart, good things happen in His perfect timing. My life is going to be a testimony to inspire anyone else out there going through tough times. If you're fighting a hard battle today, keep the faith and keep moving forward. You don't need a picture-perfect story to have value or to help someone else. I spent years losing myself to drugs starting at age 13, and today I’m dealing with serious physical disabilities that keep me from walking or talking.
But I'm not focused on what was lost. I'm focused on the plan God has for me. My story isn't over—it's becoming a testimony. To anyone grinding through a dark chapter right now: don't give up. Your struggle today is going to be your strength tomorrow. It’s easy to look at other people's "highlight reels" and feel like you missed out on the playbook. Trust me, I know that feeling. I lost decades to addiction starting as a teenager, and now I'm fighting a daily battle with physical disability.
But smooth sailing doesn't build depth or resilience. Surviving the hard stuff does. I truly believe God wastes nothing, and my journey is going to be a tool to inspire and lift up others who are walking through the mud right now. Keep your heart strong, trust the timing, and keep showing up.
