@clipsnotreal3: Horses reproduce through a natural mating process between a male horse, called a stallion, and a female horse, called a mare. When a mare is in season, also known as being in heat, she becomes receptive to breeding. During this time, the stallion may display courtship behaviours such as sniffing, nudging, and vocalising. The mare may respond by standing calmly and showing signs that she is ready to mate. If both animals are receptive, mating can occur. During mating, sperm from the stallion is transferred to the mare. If fertilisation takes place, an embryo begins to develop inside the mare’s uterus. The mare’s pregnancy typically lasts around eleven months, although this can vary slightly. Throughout pregnancy, the developing foal grows and receives nutrients from its mother. As the due date approaches, the mare will show signs that she is preparing to give birth. Once the foal is born, it is usually able to stand and walk within a few hours. The mare provides milk and protection while the foal grows and learns important behaviours. This reproductive process ensures the continuation of horse populations and has been an important part of horse breeding for thousands of years.
