It would be a very rare dog of an LGD breed that would succeed in IGP (previously called IPO and Schutzhund) and to do well in the sport requires so many traits that are the opposite of what you want in an LGD! Also, I think many people are not aware that bitework is only 1/3 of IGP, the trials also include tracking (very detailed footstep tracking wigh multiple article indications, not just loosely following a trail) and an obedience routine that includes off leash heeling, positions out of motion, retrieves of a big dumbell, jumps, a send out. The sport is sooo much more than biting a guy with a sleeve, (even the bitework part is a LOT of control and precision) and everything is judged on not just precision but also the emotion of the dog. It is a hard sport to score high in even for dogs bred for it! LGD are designed to be very independent workers that think for themselves

LGD dogs are bred to protect and be independent. Being able to make decisions on their own, I do not see that working well in IPO 😅

exactly! I considered it with one of my anatolians but she naturally will guard/protect but would not have the personality or temperament for IGP. my other anatolian is my service dog. his sister is the guardian for my daughters she is amazing at it and very well rounded. my 6 year old can walk her in public just fine and she will be friendly with people until its time to not be.

My husband works out of town M-F and my go-to scary dog has always been my oldest Flat-Coat. Big many barks, super impressive... IF THEY ONLY KNEW 🤣

not necessary her natural instincts are more than enough. And even if you wanted to go that route, there's only 24 hours in a day and 7 in a week's. you are a bakery busy woman
