Mnakumbuka the video of this man I posted last week? Last week, while I was urging pedestrians to use the footbridge at the Nyayo Stadium Roundabout, I met this man sleeping by the roadside. I was worried because the place where he was sleeping was dangerous, so I woke him up and engaged him in a conversation. It was then that some bystanders who knew him told me that he was once a very popular DJ, but they did not know what had happened to his life. I decided to post his video on social media and asked anyone who knew him or his family to come forward. Indeed, the video reached his family, and today his mother contacted me. We traced the man and found him around the Nyayo Stadium Roundabout. His mother narrated an emotional story. Her son was once successful. He had a car, a farm, a wife and children. At some point, he left home with his wife and went to Meru, where he eventually lost communication with his mother. She later learnt that he had been admitted to hospital after his condition deteriorated. He was eventually admitted to Mathari Hospital, but later ran away from home. It has now been four years since his mother last saw her son until she saw the video I posted. Today, I have helped his mother rescue her son and facilitated his admission to Mathari Hospital, where he will receive care and treatment as he works towards getting mentally well and rebuilding his life. This story is a reminder that behind every person sleeping on our streets, there is a story. Some were once professionals, business people, parents, husbands, wives or people who had dreams and families. Mental health challenges can affect anyone. If you come across someone who appears mentally unwell, vulnerable or abandoned, please don't stigmatise or abuse them. Where possible, alert the relevant authorities, health professionals, family members or organisations that can assist with rescue and rehabilitation. Sometimes, one video, one phone call, one act of kindness or one person refusing to look away can reunite a family. To this mother, I pray that your son gets better and that your family gets the opportunity to rebuild the years that were lost. Kenyans, let us continue looking out for one another. There are many more people out there who need our help. #nairobi #livehighlights #tiktoklive #live #viral @Nairobi_Juice @Sauti TV @PlugTv @Spmbuzzke @KENYA GOSSIP CLUB 🇰🇪
