They start with “I want that.” 👀 Today’s Mass readings are intense, uncomfortable, and exactly what the modern heart needs. 📖 First Reading: 1 Kings 21:1-16 King Ahab wants Naboth’s vineyard, but Naboth refuses because it is his ancestral inheritance before God. Then Jezebel turns entitlement into corruption, false witness, and murder. This reading exposes how dangerous it is when desire becomes a “right” and power stops caring about justice. 🙏 Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 5:2-7 The Psalm gives words to the wounded heart: “Give ear to my words, O Lord; understand my sighing.” When evil looks like it is winning, the faithful soul does not run first to revenge. It runs to God, the true King who sees every lie, every injustice, and every hidden wound. ✝️ Holy Gospel: Matthew 5:38-42 Jesus takes the old law of “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” and calls His disciples higher. Turn the other cheek. Go the second mile. Give generously. Not because evil is okay, but because evil does not get to decide who Christians become. This is the challenge: do not become Ahab when life feels unfair. Do not let revenge become your personality. Do not let resentment own your soul. Christ teaches a different way. Justice without hatred. Mercy without weakness.
