@sydniehamby: i have a theory on why IVF breaks high-achieving women — and it’s not what you think. the hardest part of IVF isn't the injections 💉 it's the loss of control. from a young age, we were taught: work hard → get the result 🏋️♀️ this is true in our careers, relationships, education, fitness, etc. 🩰 with IVF, you can do everything right - do the research, take the supplements, eat the perfect fertility diet, practice mindfulness, excercise daily — and still lose. hard work does not always equal success. for high-achieving women, we're used to effort MEANING something. that's why it breaks us. women who are used to success have spent their lives checking achievements off of their to-do lists, and being an active participant in their future. IVF dismantled that for me. the real work with IVF isn't pushing harder - it's letting go and trusting that what's meant to be will always be ✨ follow along for IVF conversations that dive deep and don't sugarcoat it 🤍 #ivf #ivfjourney #ivfsuccess #ttcjourney #ttc

Realizing you can’t outwork infertility is humbling in the worst way

Suzanna :
I told my husband that infertility is so hard because I’ve always been able to hard work my way to everything. Every decision I’ve made in life was to create a beautiful life for my family-the family I’m failing to grow.

Eldest daughter, high-achiever, AND a Capricorn. The loss of control has been the hardest part for me 🥲

I haven’t ever seen anyone touch on this. But 1000 percent agree. It’s like I did everything you said to do, why isn’t this working.

Totally agree with this as a high achieving woman. All my life I just worked harder, pushed myself more to reach a goal. That doesn’t matter with IVF.

Just had to thank you for putting this in words. I used this in therapy today to process it after 9 yrs of infertility treatments.

It’s the one goal we cannot achieve and ironically it’s the one we want the most

Spot on. I did all the right things and didn't understand why everything that could be wrong/go wrong did. It was hard not to blame myself and feel disappointed, not in the process but in myself. Thankful to have made it through to the other side. Wishing you the best.

1000000000%. My husband and have been talking about this for years. We both had to work extra hard to accomplish our goals. We have achieved everything we set out to do until it was time to have kids. Doesn’t matter how hard you “try” or how much money you “throw” at the problem. There was no guarantee.

This is so true! I wish we could be guaranteed an outcome. Or get a snapshot into the future.

Scary how accurate this is for me too! We lose control and we don’t know what to do because no matter how much effort we make it’s out of our control 🥺

I finally saw a therapist and she clocked me so fast. "So this is the first thing you can't achieve? It's out of your control...." I'm still learning to give my mind and body the rest it needs and along the way learning to not blame myself.

It has been suffocating for someone high achieving but had imposter syndrome after hitting teenage. It feels like I have to work 10 times harder for something that comes easy to others and it is frustrating
