I took the solitude thing too far. Now I’m 48 and a relationship is just out of the question.

I think this applies politically as well. Many people sit and think their political ideals are perfect without engaging with the reality of governance and actual disagreement.

THIS SPECIFICALLY got me into a year long actual depression, I believed I can be fully on my own and isolated myself completely, it's a miracle that family members reached out and helped me diagnose the thing and get out of this

That only works if the relationship is healthy. Unhealthy relationships can reflect back distortions as much as being alone can. The things you've mentioned are the same things that can be found in strangers, neighbors, people who are routinely seen. Intimacy is not only restricted to deep relationships. It can grow anywhere. Defining oneself through relationships can be harmful as well. Solitude is not a curse nor a gift. The same goes for relationships.

I wish I could have shown this video to my ex when we were still together, who one night, early in our relationship, felt it was necessary to tell me during some forgotten argument, how important it was to her that I know that she does not need me. It was an answer to a question I never asked. Still hurts years later.

I actually thrive on spite so everyone moving towards a lone wolf mentality had me move more towards being sociable 😂

I think you underestimate the depths of the mirrors inside. And such teaching can only be self taught.

There’s a lot of people I know who run from being alone and jump from one relationship to the next without any gaps..:their identities are always shaped by who they date…so…being in relationship to others AND THE SELF are both necessary to know yourself.

My best friend was visiting and I had a bit of a meltdown because I was tired, hungry, and overwhelmed. It was so lovely to have her there to make me toast and jam and get me some water. Then, later in the week, she got sick and I was able to make sure she had food and medicine. I miss having her nearby.

This is so painful for me, a 40yr old who has never been in a relationship. No one wants me, so I guess I’ll never fully know myself or experience a full life.

This is why I hate the therapy term "codependency" because people have misinterpreted it to think that you should never be dependent on someone your in a relationship with in any way.
