I'm not even a surgeon but like... If I plug my phone into an outlet and it doesn't charge I'm checking the cord. then I'm checking the outlet. THEN I am considering replacing my phone. I feel like this could be applied to reviewing an artificial heart valve post surgery 🫠

So crazy, I’m a PCICU RN and after a couple days on ECMO and no improvement what about a cardiac cath? Go back to the OR for exploratory sx? How can they not see the valve wasn’t functioning?

Was this recently? I remember a few cases a decade or so ago with improperly built LVADs, artificial hearts, and such.

Maybe there’s details we don’t have but I would think the heart would function (electrical) but not properly (mechanical). Absolutely egregious error!

An echo should have been done intra-op, Transesophageal If it was done there is no way they would have not seen the incompetent valve right then and then fixed it. That is the standard of care.
