@justin_danger_nunley: Goldfish can lose their pigmentation and turn pale or white if kept in the dark for extended periods. Without light, the specialized skin cells (chromatophores) that produce their orange and gold colors stop producing pigment and eventually die off. While their colors will certainly fade to a grayish or pale shade, they rarely turn completely white. This is because fish also derive a portion of their coloration directly from the nutrients and pigments in the foods they eat. In addition to color fading, keeping a goldfish in continuous darkness is highly stressful and can disrupt their natural sleep cycles, leading to health issues.
