People think DNA is split down the middle equally. It’s not

Many people don't understand this. You get half your DNA from each parent. And the DNA you get is random. You may actually be descended from people who just don't show up in your DNA but who do show up in a sibling's DNA.

They’re also not that accurate to begin with… I literally have DNA for regions that neither of my parents have🤷🏻‍♀️

this is mostly due to gene crossover during meiosis! we receive only 50% of our parents TOTAL dna, not half of 100%

Amelia :
you get 50% of your dna from each parent, however, the 50% your mom got from her dad is not 25% of your dna, bc its random which of her genes you get, and thus there's a 50% chance that each could be your grandpa's or grandma's. statistically, you would expect to get 25% from each grandparent, but it rarely happens that way, and as that keeps going up there are people 5 steps up that you may share no dna with at all

Someone compared it to a pot of chicken noodle soup. Same pot, different amounts of chicken, carrots, noodles, ect❤️
