@summithound: One of the most overlooked parts of dog training is teaching respect for thresholds and food. A dog should never be sprinting through doors, exploding out of gates, or dragging you through entrances. Waiting calmly at thresholds teaches patience, impulse control, and reinforces that you're the one making decisions about when it's time to move forward. The same applies at feeding time. Dogs shouldn't be launching at the food bowl, knocking you over, or acting frantic when meals are prepared. Teaching your dog to sit, wait, and remain calm before being released to eat builds self-control and creates structure around one of the most exciting parts of their day. For powerful breeds especially, obedience isn't just about commands—it's about mindset. A dog that can control itself around doors, gates, food, and excitement is often easier to handle in every other area of life. Calm dogs make better decisions. Do your dogs wait at doors and for their food, or do they think every meal is a race? 👇

Been teaching my 4 month pit to do all 3 and also placing him. My biggest issue with him is that he gets really excited seeing people that he gets overwhelming, how can I get him to stay calm?

I have a pitbull mix and he’s been to the softball fields. He was perfectly fine letting people come up to him and get near him letting people get near me and my family but since winter had came, we stopped playing and October all the way to May and I took him back to the field and he’s showing aggression to people that try to get near me not allowing them to get too close even got to the point where I just had to put them in the car out of his safety and other others and I want him back at the fields like he used to be, but I don’t know how to slowly train him into it back again

The running out the door is a real issue. On leash, he sits and waits for the command to cross. Off leash if anyone happens to open the door, he pushes them out of the way and bolts into the street, which is a recipe for disaster. I feel like I’ve tried many methods, none of which seem to be sticking. What is your method of training this behavior?

Its so easy to do, but most of the time people who buy bullies never have patience and give up after the first few days.
