is there a recommendation for a balance bike that turns into a bike later? I can't justify buying a balance bike that will only be used for a few months considering how expensive they are

That looks so uncomfortable. I want a pediatric PT to weigh in on this and if it is bad for hip development.

My kids both started their balance bikes at 18months and my older son also had a tricycle. He can now ride a pedal bike with no training wheels at 4, completely skipped the training wheels! Love them

When I was a kid I hated the training wheels bc they made it hard to balance. Asked my parents to remove them and then I finally learned to ride my bike! (I also wish I had one of these as a kid)

Balance bikes are great for motor and overall physical development! We have them at preschools as an option if they have enough spaces. My students love them and helps with confidence too! 🫡

I taught at a bike camp one summer and the kids with the balance bikes always learned on like day 2 to ride, whereas the kids with training wheels usually took the whole week

What age did he actually start actively using it? My boy has had a balance bike for 8mo now but he only gets on it for maybe 5-10 seconds and is uninterested after that. He’s 21 months old!

Yeah so I didn’t have training wheels, I learned when I was 7 and my dad basically pushed me down a hill and said “don’t forget to use the breaks”.

my dad used to just try to roll me down anything steep to teach me, but I have no survival instinct and I just fell on my face each time. I never learned, so yeah this is great, maybe my dad should've used this instead of pushing me down hills😭

I feel like Balance bikes are only better when it comes to children who only or mainly struggles to balance. My little brother had a hard time and a balance bike really helped him out. The rest of my siblings, including me, were great at balancing but had a hard time petaling (I hope that is spelled right, english isn’t my first language please correct me!) and steering while doing it. A Balance Bike would have been useless for us.
