@redditstories_doggo: My daughter's reaction to me telling her she's going to have a baby sibling was very underwhelming, and since she has a tendency to bottle up her emotions, I'm scared she's going to burst in the future. Plus one update. Posted by: u/Usual_Way_4981 #reddit #redditstories #redditreadings #redditdoggo #minecraftparkour #storytime
14 year age gap is actually really hard. it’s extremely hard to connect with a sibling with such a gap without the older getting some sort of parentification

Honestly, at 15 I would DESPISE having a new baby sibling, but that’s cause I have NEVER liked babies or toddlers

I mean yea I wouldn’t care much either. When you restart that late, siblings really can’t have the bond that parents would want them to. They’re just too far apart

Honestly, I love that the mother is heavily being cautious when it comes down to the subject cause a lot of the time it is not considered. The fact that this Mom is showing that she cares about her daughter’s mental health even though she’s already had other siblings is so comforting and reassuring that this mother wants to make sure that her kids are okay

Just a hunch, but I think the check in helped tremendously. While it may not have been bothering as she said, you still took the time to check in on and validate her feelings. It let her know she’s still a priority without having to even question it, as well as showed her that you value her input as teen/young adult. While this may have been nerve wracking I have a feeling that how you handled it will be a cornerstone in the friendship you and your daughter have once she too is an independent adult.

Some of you are so immature. People remarry and have more kids, it’s not up to you or your choice as a child. As long as you aren’t being parentified, you adjust. My oldest was 16 when I had my youngest and he was over the moon about it. He knew we were trying & he was the first person I told when we got the positive result. His daughter and youngest brother are only 4 years apart and are the best of friends.

I told my mother if she has any more kids I’m not acknowledging them, I’m not involved and they won’t know me personally. One half sibling was enough

When my parents told me I was going to have a little brother or sister, I had actually asked for permission to play Lego Batman on the Xbox. Instead of answering me, they sat me down and broke the news. I replied with something like, “Okay, but can I play Batman?” Honestly, I could not have cared less about their baby. I just wanted to play. 😭🙏🏻

Op I’d def overthinking things and needs to leave her alone. She has siblings on her dad’s side. So another one isn’t gonna be a shock or surprise for her. To her it’s just another sibling

It can be cute and fun in the beginning but most of the time they end up having little to no relationship in the future

I was 11 when my brother arrived to this world. I was also a quiet girl and very up to myself. Did I resent him? Not really. I spent a lot of time with him since his birth, I technically helped to raise him and from my perspective, he was like this little creature I had to nurture in order to help him grow. The only time I wasn't available was during a harsh time in middle school, I got depressed and taking care of him didn't help me (in his first years he was quite demanding due to health issues) but besides that? I was fine with him around.

as someone with a sister 16 years younger than me let me just say I don't recommend it. I love my sister dearly but my parents got lazy, divorced and long story short I am her guardian now. It absolutely is too late to have a sibling. My sister and I didn't grow up together, I moved out when she was 4 and she was distraught. my brothers and I grew up together and have so many memories and can relate to a lot but my sister and I? it's not the same, she's a teenager now and our conversations don't meet much depth aside from me basically parenting her and the occasional "you're not my mom" comments
