so this is a cool story but it’s not true red night vision goggles were never used in vietnam they primarily used AN/PVS-2 starlight scopes and those used green night vision the story is that these red night vision goggles had a dye called Dicyanin that made people see “human auras” but Dicyanin isn’t a hallucinogen so they wouldn’t have seen anything with it but the real things troops had to deal with was sleep deprivation, combat stress and PTSD so that could’ve definitely caused the “visions” that they saw

Even old starlight scopes were solid state and used no chemicals. but I have never heard of red NVG only green and blue.
