Bringing in kipchoge as a comparison is wild… and 60 miles weeks from age 14? Throwing these comments out is why people struggle to take Mary seriously

Hitting back at criticism by comparing the way they’re discussed in the wider running space to how people might talk about one of the greatest runners of all time is hilarious

60 miles a week at 14? Sorry I don’t believe that at all 😭

I think Mary should do more talking videos / give context. What probably leaves people confused is short 10 second videos on injuries / runs that leave lots of context out 🤷

I don't think anyone was saying Mary was overtraining until she got a stress fracture...and didn't stop running...and then immediately took up cycling when realistically resting (even a couple of weeks) was an option. She can do what she wants of course but she's creating content out of it which is influencing whether she likes it or not and she's getting sponsored and gifting from brands so that's very much influencing too..m

U can still be an influencer and have been running for years. Bone stress r seldom flukes, perhaps under recovering for the training ur currently doing.

i interpreted her comments about alfie manthorpe and eliud kipchoge, not as her comparing herself to them or their abilities, but to highlight that male atheletes (whether they have an online presence or not) are, simply put, not subjected to the same criticism and scrutiny in the way female athletes are… which is a well documented fact… 🤷🏼♀️

God the negative comments on these clips are interesting, especially when you compare them to other guests who have been on. Whether you agree with her or not, she’s helped thousands of people start running, and that’s a pretty meaningful contribution to the sport

I have gotten stress fractures twice(one stress reaction, one stress fracture) and was I trying to be careful? Yes!! Was I pushing myself? Yes!! Was I eating well yes!! But even as hard as tried I did overtrain, I probably needed more rest, maybe more food on certain day and maybe one hard session not two a week. It’s okay to make mistakes!!! Cause we learn from them!!

I think everyone is missing her point that she is an athlete and has been been an athlete for nearly 2 decades - she is more comparable to an elite marathon runner than the average amateur.

If you get a stress fracture, you are overtraining for *your* body

I do agree Mary gets far too much stick, but I sure hope that '60 mile weeks at 14' line is an exaggeration. No 14 year old should be doing that.

She’s had stress fractures not once, but several times. She just returns to her old habits each time. I really hope people aren’t taking inspiration from her.

Big fan of Mary. However, going to have to strongly disagree regarding the overtraining. If you’re doing 60 mile weeks at the age of 14, especially as a female athlete, that is too much to allow the proper foundations of bone structure to be laid. So even if she thinks she wasn’t overtraining now, she most likely was then. I’ve just comeback from a stress response, running high mileage, thinking I was invincible. Lots of people told me I was overtraining and I didn’t listen because I didn’t feel fatigued. Any stress related injury is 9 time out of 10
