Here is the easiest most simplest explanation of basically what hulk was trying to explain what time travel is basically about with examples and stuff. Let’s use your life as an example for now. Your life is a timeline: birth → 2026. If you go back to a random point in time like 2014 and change something, then return to 2026, your original 2026 doesn’t get erased, changed, or ruined, IT ALL STAYS THE SAME AS IF IT NEVER HAPPENED, BECAUSE YOU ALREADY LIVED IT AND THERE IS NO GOING BACK, ITS YOUR TIMELINE, AND ITS ALSO THE PEOPLE IN YOUR LIVES TIMELINE. Your change in the past creates a separate branch for the people that were in that past where things can happen differently for THEM AND NOT UR MAIN TIMELINE U CAME FROM, cause it’s a seperate future for them and for you, even your self from the past can have a Separate future, but your main one stays the same no matter what, separate branch is basically like another universe that basically has nothing to do with you except for the fact that everyone there now has a separate future that’s not connected to your timeline at all, Like if you take a kid’s baseball in 2014, your original life stays the same, but that branch becomes separate from the main where the kid was supposed to have his baseball like the original timeline, but the kid doesn’t have his baseball anymore which creates another branch where his life could be messed up or something, but even if that happens, the kid from your main life IS STILL THERE, he has the baseball still because no matter what u do in the past, it doesn’t affect ur MAIN FUTURE. That’s basically what the Avengers did with the Stones from the past: they took them from the past, used them to bring everyone back in their 2023, and returned them so they wouldn’t leave those branches without the Stones and mess up their lives, They were careful because even if the changes don’t effect their future AT ALL, they could still mess up other people’s and they are the avengers so they don’t want to mess up people’s lives even if it has nothing to do with their main future where everyone is where they are supposed to be in.
