Little did I know, I wasn't carrying just keys... I was carrying the entire Sunday service in my pocket. 😭😂 Later that evening, a friend convinced me to step out for "just a short while." I stretched. Yawned. Opened one eye. Then I heard my neighbour's radio loudly airing Ngogoyo ya Governor Wakangethe, instead of Itaha ria Muoyo by Wangunjiri. For a moment, life felt peaceful but confusing. Then I reached for my phone. Wueh! I nearly met my ancestors. My heartbeat stopped Hundreds of missed calls. The church leadership had been looking for me everywhere. The worship team was calling. The youth leader was calling. The church elders were calling. At that point, I am convinced even the Archbishop had already received a full intelligence briefing concerning my greatest church crime. 😭😂😂 Meanwhile, the congregation had arrived on time. Praise and worship was supposed to begin. The preacher was ready. The choir had probably warmed up their voices. But the church doors remained firmly shut. People stood outside waiting... because of me. 😂 Reports indicate that an emergency meeting was convened outside the church gate. Several theories emerged. "Maybe he was involved in an accident." "Huyo kijana nilijua tuu sio wa kuaminika, said the mother of my ex" 😂 Others had already concluded that I had backslided and joined earthly happiness. 😭😂😂😂😂 Being the introvert that I am, nobody in church really knew where I lived. I would magically appear every Sunday, worship faithfully, exchange a few greetings, and disappear until the next service. Except for that one Saturday when I decided to be a team player and accepted the responsibility of carrying the church keys home. By Sunday afternoon, the entire church leadership had launched what can only be described as Operation Find Kimemia, because nobody knew where to begin the search. 😭😂 Intel sources later informed me that the area chief had allegedly been notified just in case the situation escalated into mob justice. Unconfirmed reports also suggested that the area OCS had placed me on a watch list. Meanwhile, the mysterious apple of my eye who only few close friends knew had started receiving threatening calls from unknown church members demanding answers she herself did not possess. 😂 That day, I learnt that church keys are not just keys. They carry responsibility, prayers, announcements, the offering basket, and an entire Sunday programme. 😂 The embarrassment that followed was enough to qualify me for witness protection. To this day, I have never gone back to that church. Am still seeking asylum 😭😂😂😂 To this day, I still don't know whether my name was reinstated in Heaven's register after locking an entire congregation outside. 😭😂 If St. Peter is keeping minutes, I may still be listed under "Pending disciplinary hearing." 😂🙏 I hereby request a full delegation of elders, , to accompany me to the hearing as we move to appeal the verdict that declared me persona non grata in my father’s house. Secondly, I would like clarification on how an entire church ended up operating on one shared key, passed around like a sacred rotating artifact.
