I think the idea that you have to clarify that ‘you’re not on the right’ is part of the problem. What is the point of a political spectrum if one half is demonised and outcasted? You should be able to give a take without disclosing your political affiliation. Labelling is a problem.

I honestly think the whole “just google it” thing that people do is so rude as well.

I’m on the right, but wish both sides could have political discussions without reverting to insulting eachother.

I used to be a true Centrist. This stance over the years has shifted more right partly based on what you have said.

What is fascism? That’s a good question. It’s a separate word from ‘racism’ so it means something different though they’re associated with each other. If you want a clearer definition then a Marxist definition is better than any other I’ve found. It’s a good question and no one should assume to know better than others here because it’s a word that has kinda lost definition quite a bit

The mistake is assuming the working class have been pushed, misled or radicalised to the right. More often, they’re drawing conclusions from their own lived experience. The problem is that many of the people commenting on those views (the left) inhabit entirely different social and economic worlds, so they struggle to understand why ordinary voters see things differently.

I’m centre right in my political opinions and have genuinely tried to engage in meaningful debate online and in person and am immediately met with names, hostility, reputation destruction, attempted cancelling, it’s ridiculous. I would be so happy if we all afforded the opportunity to change each others’ minds but it just isn’t possible with many of the left, I don’t think.

Yeah, it's probably has to do with the divide between working class people just not having the same education and middle class people looking down on them for not being as privileged as they are which really doesn't help anyone because it's just gatekeepy.

100% this, I consider myself someone very moderate, maybe even a centrist, but the more I get involved with politics the more I lean right because the left are so aggressive

they harp on about how young people should be more compassionate, be more political and then go on the attack when someone shows interest. shows that they want to learn, which starts by asking questions. and this air of moral superiority and self righteousness pisses me off. no one is perfect. and what are we achieving by isolating others. i know you're talking about this in a british context but i see this in general. here in ireland too
