This might sound callous af, but I rescued a dog who needed a LOT of training, so I did an intensive dog training course to help him. Giving another dog a treat for doing the correct behaviour is a strategy for getting your stubborn dog to emulate them. I started using some of the strategies I learned to help my dog in the classroom and my student’s behaviour has improved to the point other staff are commenting on it 😭

The amount of times I’ll start saying “said student is ready. And this student is ready” and the amount of times I see the heads turn and they realize “wait, we need to be doing that!” And it’s working!

kids are way to smart for this. work with the child, compliment them on things done well, speak privately, encourage them. I always ask how can I help you? show respect and you'll get respect.

This works extremely well with younger students. With older students, I will compliment groups of kids by row or side of the room or gender. For example, row four thank you for being ready. Sometimes if you point out one older child other kids will make fun of them.
