⚠️ This is exactly how black bears learn that cars contain food. 🐻 I’ve spent 25 years around black bears in East Tennessee, and this has never happened to me… until now. 😬 📍This happened in Wears Valley near Great Smoky Mountains National Park. When I walked back to my car after inspecting a cabin for my job, I noticed my car door was open, and the remains of my takeout food from earlier were missing. Seconds later, a mother black bear with two cubs came back looking for more food and opened my passenger door while I was still inside… 🐻🚪 Thankfully, my car wasn’t damaged, but this was a reminder that bears are wild animals. One meal can teach a bear that cars mean food. ⚠️ Bear safety tips: • Never leave food or scented items in your vehicle in bear country. • If a bear approaches, don’t run. • Back away and give it space. • If a food-conditioned black bear continues approaching or tries to access your food, become loud, make yourself look bigger, and use an appropriate deterrent if you have one. (I keep a bear whistle in my car, which you might have heard toward the end of the video.)
