Thank you for sharing this important information. I have GH C282Y homozygous. Thankfully I was diagnosed in my 40’s thanks to a brilliant GP who noticed my high ferritin. Unbelievable that after all my blood tests when I was pregnant a few years earlier no one flagged my iron was dangerously high. After 4 years of venesections I’m now nearing maintenance. My GP saved my life.

Last two bloods for me show abnormal levels .. told to wait 6 weeks then I will be seen again . Mum ( Irish) also has the same levels but her last check showed it had reduced . The tiredness is unreal !!!

I have it. Took over a year for me to get diagnosed. Even though my ferritin and tsat was high. I felt dreadful until I got into maintenance. It affected my stomach, my ankles. I developed migraines which I’d never had before. The chronic fatigue was also awful. It was actually a locum that sent for the test. I had seen several GPs beforehand and not one put two and two together

It's in my family...a blood test can ascertain if you have it or are a carrier. My brother became extremely ill a few years back and haemachromatosis went undiagnosed for so long that his liver started to fail and he became diabetic. He has never regained full health but we were all checked and one of my sister's also has it so thankfully was diagnosed in time.

Homozygous (2 alleles C282Y) I'm a slow loader however, my TSats are always over 65% with the highest being 98%. Currently, my ferritin has risen to triple digits for the first time since 2012 but my iron is normal. I have adverse reactions to Venesections so, I'm seeing Haemo at the end of the month.
