@mqrs011: Dr. Abdul Rahman Ghassemlou (1930-1989) was one of the most important Kurdish leaders of the 20th century, leading the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) for over two decades. Before politics, he was actually a professor studied in Czechoslovakia and France, got his doctorate in economics, and ended up teaching political science and economics. Dude spoke like 5+ languages fluently (Kurdish, Persian, French, Czech, English), which honestly helped him a ton as a leader because he could represent the Kurdish movement on the world stage in a way most others couldn't. He led the KDPI through some of the hardest times for Kurds in Iran, including sitting down for peace talks with the Iranian government after the 1979 revolution. In 1989, he was assassinated in Vienna during those exact peace negotiations most people believe Iranian intelligence was behind it (so do i). He's remembered as this rare mix of intellectual and revolutionary, and a martyr for the Kurdish cause. #kurdistan #ghassemlou #kurdish
