Never do that I have a hunting crossbow Iv shot a lot of compound bows one of the number one things not to do is dry fire it if you want to demonstrate set up a target use a arrow or just pull it back slowly bring your string to its base position it’s called resetting meaning you don’t have a good shot so you want to reset your bow and wait tell you have a good shot
