This marketing tactic is another case of profit over people by big food companies! We are being completely misled by the word protein plastered all over lots of ultra processed products packaging in the supermarket right now. Big food companies latched onto the narrative that’s been created out there that we all need to be getting more protein in our diets! And what did they do? Formulated highly processed products, slapped the word “protein” on the front of packs and charge really premium prices because they know people are highly influenced by this obsession with getting enough protein and they’re buying into these high protein products = big profits for these companies. These products may well be high in protein, but we need to look at the overall picture of the product. They’re often packed with lots of artificial additives, often high in sugar or artificial sweeteners. Other products like the high protein porridge is simply ripping people off by charging 13 times the price from regular organic oats just because they’ve added some sugar, milk protein and flavourings. Add your own milk and something like nuts/seeds when making porridge at home and you’ll get the protein in your porridge and not be ripped off by it! And don’t get me started on most of the protein bars that are basically overpriced, glorified chocolate bars in disguise. It’s time we stop letting food companies take advantage of our good intentions. If you’re buying these because you want to eat better, you deserve better. Don’t let them charge you premium prices for products that don’t deliver on nutrition. Let’s call it out for what it is: profit over people! What do you think? I’d love to know ❤️ #readlabels #ultraprocessedfoods #misleadinglabels
