@jamiesfinance: how to read your payslip! In this two-minute-long video, I go into depth about how you can read your payslip. This payslip is similar to what you would see in a lot of jobs that go via PAYE, which is different from salaried colleagues or workers. It should give a general idea of totals and deductions. It is important to know: 1. How much tax you pay 2. National Insurance contributions 3. Other deductions (such as student loans) You may have a question: why do I pay so little tax? The reason is that I earn a significant amount of money elsewhere. Last year was my first year being self-employed on top of working for Tesco, and my self-assessment for all that work is not actually due until next year. Because of this, HMRC does not yet know that I am estimated to make more money. Furthermore, I now operate on an LTD basis and I am not paying myself a salary from that company until next year. Therefore, this is technically the correct amount of tax I should be paying.

If you wash your uniform it is definitely worth claiming that back from HMRC. You get £60 a year pay that is untaxed. You can also back date it. I did it and got £41.55 back from HMRC. It's not a lot, but it's something
