Over and above the uncontrolled inflation over the past 20 years and stagnant salaries there are a few things to mention
No cellphone contract
No data costs
No wifi costs
No dstv costs
No drinking every weekend
I remember back in 2019 when I had a cellphone contract ya R750pm. I was like "How would I explain to my grandfather that I pay R750pm for a device I need to buy airtime still for"

In late 90s, R100 was R399 today. Imagine in the 80s. R2k is a lot

When I started working my salary was R4750, my monthly expenses were R850 including transport. Inflation and the devaluation of the rand. We are currently experiencing hyperinflation in our lifetime.

My Mother used to say pray on pay day before spend and God will multiply. My Granny used to say on pay day don't spend, pray and thank God then spend a day after. this was a believe system that worked for them.
