@cassondrawanders: The Michigan Renaissance Festival is an annual event in Holly, Michigan, that transports visitors to a 16th-century European village with knights, jousting, artisans, and themed entertainment every weekend from August 22 to October 4. Featuring 17 stages with jousting, comedy, music, and magic; character interactions; and people-powered rides. Enjoy armored jousting, watch birds of prey, participate in a pub crawl, or try mead tasting. Over 150 artisans selling unique, handcrafted items. A variety of food, medieval ale, and special events like the Feast of Fantasy and Mead Tastings. Each weekend has a specific theme, such as "Pirates & Pups," "Highland Fling," or "Viking Invasion". The festival grounds are located in Holly, Michigan. At Holly Grove, a 17-acre village with shops, taverns, and a castle, populated by costumed characters from nobles to pirates. #renfaire #renaissance #renaissancefestival

If there’s one thing I have to do when I go to Holly Grove, it’s I have to go see Pictus and then right after that, the Rogue Blades

In case anyone’s wondering: in 1599, the land under this festival wasn’t an English village called Hollygrove it was Anishinaabe homelands with their own cultures, trade routes, and ceremonies. But instead of celebrating the people who actually lived here, we cosplay a kingdom on a completely different continent we had zero ties to. Michigan Renaissance Fest: historically set in the wrong place, the wrong time, and the wrong continent and somehow we still call it ‘culture.’”
