Values learned from fictional heroes, ideals acquired but never carried. If you hold a certain belief about yourself or align yourself with certain values but constantly undermine them for sloth, gluttony, lust, wrath or whatever else that feels convenient, you’ll come to be self loathing. You won’t have self respect. I mean, what use is a man who can’t even uphold his own principles he proudly talks about to others. So it seeps into your subconscious. Contaminating other aspects of your life. Dictating the effort you put into the serious and mundane however unrelated it is to the values you undermine. For when you can’t even trust the words that escape your lips, or the free will you don’t act upon, how could you trust anything. How could you trust that effort will yield, or that anything matters. But the very reason it affects you, is the reason you can pull away from it. You self loath because you care about upholding those values. So do it. Again and again until you establish trust within yourself, confidence in your words, character.
