If you’re in my life, I naturally want to know how you’re doing. Not just your favorite color or favorite food, but your goals, your dreams, what makes you smile, what keeps you up at night, and what kind of life you want to build. Isn’t that what dating is supposed to be? Getting to know someone. Spending time together. Seeing if you’re compatible. Seeing if your values align. Seeing if there’s something worth building. Somewhere along the way, people started acting like having standards or wanting real conversations is asking for too much. It’s not. I’m not talking to a hundred different people. I’m not out here trying to break hearts. I’m simply someone who knows what she wants and what she doesn’t want. And I’m not lowering my standards because someone else can’t meet them. After spending six years in a relationship built on lies and manipulation, I’ve learned one thing: I will never shrink myself to make someone else comfortable. If you’re someone with a big heart, don’t let anyone make you feel bad for caring. Don’t let anyone convince you that kindness is weakness or that standards are a problem. You are allowed to walk away from what doesn’t serve you. You are allowed to protect your peace. You are allowed to wait for the love you deserve. I’m young. I have my whole life ahead of me. If true love finds me, it finds me. Until then, I’m not settling, shrinking, or apologizing for who I am.
