@dr.conde.md: Your body still sends pain signals, even when you're unconscious. You just don't consciously feel them. But your anesthesiologist is watching for those signals the entire time. Here's how: 🫀 1. Your Heart Rate & Blood Pressure If your body is responding to a painful stimulus during surgery, your heart rate can go up and your blood pressure can spike. Your anesthesiologist is watching these numbers continuously on the monitors. 💧 2. Sweating & Tears Yes — even under anesthesia, your body can sweat or produce tears if it's reacting to pain. These are signs of your sympathetic nervous system (your "fight or flight" system) kicking in. 👁️ 3. Your Pupils Your anesthesiologist can check your pupils. Pain causes the pupils to dilate (get bigger), even when you're fully asleep. Special pupil-tracking devices can measure this very precisely. 🧠 4. Brain Wave Monitors A sticker on your forehead can read your brain waves (EEG). Certain changes in brain wave patterns — like a spike in fast-frequency activity — can signal that your body is reacting to a painful stimulus. 📊 5. Advanced "Pain Monitors" Newer technology analyzes a combination of signals — heart rate patterns, skin conductance (tiny electrical changes in your skin from sweat glands), and blood flow patterns from your pulse oximeter — to give a real-time "pain score" while you're under. 💉 So what happens if they detect pain? Your anesthesiologist adjusts your medications in real time — adding more pain medicine (like opioids or nerve blocks) or deepening the anesthesia — to keep you comfortable and safe. Bottom line: You are NEVER alone during surgery. Your anesthesiologist is a highly trained physician watching over you every second, using a combination of clinical skills and advanced technology to make sure your body stays pain-free. 💙 #Anesthesia #Anesthesiologist #SurgeryFacts #MedTok #PatientEducation

that's amazing considering 99% of the time you don't believe it when we're conscious! 😏

Id like all anasthesiologists to know more detailed info about Addisons disease. (If they don't already) The ammount of times I've had to tell / show them the hydrocortisone dosing protocol is scary. (5/ 11 surguries!) I'm always OK, but it scares me they're asking me for time frames/ dosing in regards to surgury. Shouldn't they know?! Once I wasn't given roids after surgery, 😳it wasn't handed over (shift change mistake apparently) I woke up on the recovery ward unable to talk and delerious. (4am) luckily fumbled my phone.. Called the wife, (she knows my "I'm in trouble" noises) and she called the ward. Dr appeared pretty bloody fast with an injection. (Once I could think straight, saw him again- he was lovely, wasn't his fault, no one told him) but no one ever said sorry for almost unaliving me. That hurt more than the huge amount of gallstones! Xx 💖 while I'm on the subject, will someone please invent us an autoinjector! We may only be 1 in (about) 10,000, but it's just as deadly as diabetic coma, and anaphylaxis, and it's sneaky, until you're on the floor and no one knows why-expecting a stranger to mix that powder/ water ampoule / explain the two needles if you're half in lala land, or worse, found unconscious - it's a scary prospect. There's only so much info my medical alert can store. IF they use it. (QR code one that links to my medical info.) I very much hope I never need to use them. But that's unlikely. Rant over... 💖xx
