We were recently attending to our rescue animals when a disturbing noise broke through the morning calm—gunshots followed by a dog’s agonizing cries. Without hesitation, we rushed towards the sounds, but nothing could prepare us for what we witnessed. Choco, a young German Shepherd was in utter agony. He had been SHOT in the mouth, which was now gushing bright red blood. Choco was shot by a local resident in their yard. He had allegedly killed the resident’s bunny the day before. As we learned more, we realized Choco’s suffering had begun far before this horrific incident. His irresponsible owner had recklessly allowed him to roam unsupervised, leading to this catastrophic event. Without a minute to spare, we quickly rushed Choco to the vet to save his life. At the vet, we learned that the 9mm bullet had fractured his jaw in two places and also knocked out two of his big teeth, which will have to be surgically removed after his jaw has healed. On top of this, Choco has significant tissue damage in his mouth. Stitches were necessary to slow the bleeding. Despite being in excruciating pain from the gunshot wound, Choco’s sweet nature still shines through as he gently wags his tail whenever someone approaches. He is so grateful for the help, attention, and love he’s finally receiving. This is only the beginning of Choco’s long road to recovery, and we urgently need your help.
