This is how we grow 40 cucumber plants on 4 aeroponic towers. 1. Planting Strategy: We skip the bottom growing level on each aeroponic tower and transplant no more than 1 cucumber seedling per level on opposing sides. Cucumbers grow very large with long sprawling vines, so limiting the number of plants improves airflow, light exposure, plant health, and overall yields. Across 4 towers, this gives us a total of 40 cucumber plants. 2. Grow Cage: We use a custom-built grow cage made from galvanized steel specifically designed for climbing crops like cucumbers. The structure uses attachable horizontal metal cables which the cucumber tendrils naturally latch onto as they grow. This allows the plants to spread both vertically and horizontally throughout the cage, providing better support and more growing space. 3. Seedlings: Cucumbers germinate and grow extremely quickly. We place only one seed per Rockwool cube to avoid root competition later on. Rockwool is a sterile soilless growing medium made from basaltic rock with an excellent air-to-water ratio for hydroponic and aeroponic growing. 4. Nutrient Delivery: Inside the aeroponic towers, the roots are intermittently irrigated with nutrient-enriched water containing all essential macronutrients and trace minerals required for healthy cucumber growth. Because the roots receive high oxygen exposure, the plants can grow exceptionally fast. 5. Pest Management: One of the biggest pest issues we encounter with cucumbers is aphids, which can also spread mosaic viruses such as Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV). To control them, we mainly use neem oil extracted from the neem tree, along with agricultural soap which helps break down soft-bodied insects like aphids. Both are commonly used in organic agriculture. 6. Cucumber Varieties: The cucumber varieties shown in this video include Unagi, Marketmore, Diva, and Salt & Pepper cucumbers. 7. Harvest: Cucumbers must be harvested regularly to encourage continuous fruit production throughout the growing cycle. #cucumber #farming #agriculture #horticulture #gardening
