I Tried the Boiling Water Challenge in 18°… and Physics Personally Humbled Me 😭❄️🔥 Okay SCIENCE GIRLIES, gather around because this experiment embarrassed me in front of the atmosphere 😭 So the Boiling Water Challenge is SUPPOSED to work like this: When water is at ~212°F and you throw it into EXTREMELY cold air, the droplets instantly evaporate, lose heat, and freeze into tiny ice crystals mid-air. That’s called flash evaporation + phase transition + nucleation (yes I Googled 😌📚). Basically: Liquid → vapor → ice All in 0.2 seconds. BUT HERE’S WHY MINE FLOPPED 💀👇 • Optimal temp: -10°F to -30°F (NOT 18° LIKE I HAD 😭) • Air must be dry (humidity ruins everything, just like men) • Water must be near boiling (mine was giving “lukewarm with confidence”) • Throw must be high + aggressive so droplets atomize Meanwhile… It was 18° My arm weak My throw cute but unserious My water emotionally unstable So instead of snow… I got steam. I got condensation. I got publicly corrected by thermodynamics. What you’re seeing here is NOT snow — it’s latent heat escaping, energy dissipating into the cold air, and water vapor condensing because the temperature gradient wasn’t strong enough to complete crystallization 😭 Translation: The air said “ma’am… this is not cold enough for your delusions.” But lowkey… still iconic because: • You can literally SEE energy transfer • You’re watching entropy happen in real time • And phase change is kinda sexy if you think about it Science lesson of the day: If the temperature difference isn’t extreme enough, the water won’t bypass the liquid phase and crystallize — it’ll just… embarrass you with steam. Anyway, I risked frostbite, third-degree burns, and my dignity for this experiment 😭🔥❄️ LIKE, COMMENT, AND SHARE because I clearly suffer for CONTENT Be honest… Did I almost eat… or did physics eat ME 😭 #BoilingWaterChallenge #WinterScience #STEMGirlies #PhysicsFail #ForYou
