We got denied a CAT because my husband works full time, and our daughter has preschool/extra curricular activities so we are sometimes gone 8 hour stretches…for a CAT mind you, with no medical issues.

This is why I hate the new-age shelter rules of “no seeing the dogs until you fill out an application for ONE dog”. Because how the hell are you supposed to think a dog is a good match based off a photo and vague description alone?

Very grateful to the rescue we went to they Required a dog meet and greet if you already had dogs to make sure the dogs didn't show any initial issues with each other.

When I was a kid we tried to adopt a dachshund…even while knowing he didn’t fair well with kids they still let him off leash in a room with me and my sister and he nipped at my sister as soon as he got into the room and they didn’t say anything till he nipped cuz they “hoped he wouldn’t have”

As a rescue, they need to know everything! It needs to be a right match. So they don’t return or abandon etc furrever home is what we try and do!

At least they said it aloud 😭 my aunt went through a whole 2 week long adoption process. Not once it was disclosed he was dog reactive. Learned that the hard way outside a school pick up zone 🥲

U should do a video on shelters/animal controls that r unethical such as refusing to remove dogs with bite records from the owner, ignoring animal abuse constantly etc. my local shelter is like this and its so frustrating

This hurts my soul!! I worked as an adoption counselor at a shelter and I was so up front with every person who came to look at dogs with behavior issues. I hate that shelters do things like this

I’ll start by saying I was released from the mental hospital days before doing this. I thought I needed a dog. I got a dog with anxiety from the shelter that had been in the kennel with his sister. So I got him a sister from the same shelter about a week apart. I loved her goofy energy and the personalities together. My dog Callahan is great. He listens, he’s sweet and mostly calm. Then there’s Kimmi. She must be my bad karma from another life or something. She’s a maniac. She’s done hundreds in damages breaking my fence and gate in several places, she doesn’t listen, she’s insane, and she thinks that you only use the bathroom in the house. She is ruining my life 😂 but I just love her too much to do anything about it

I think this is my main issue with shelters. We got very lucky with our rescue (schnauzer mix, came from an elderly couple’s home with two other dogs) because he has a great temperament and is very relaxed, but he still had some resource guarding issues we had to work through that were not disclosed at all. And when we adopted him we had our well-bred standard poodle with us, so you’d think that would have been relevant to mention…

idk why shelters wait until the last minute to disclose important info… When we got my rabbit, they didn’t tell us until we got there and were about to get him that he’s literally missing a leg. It said no where in the online description that he was an amputee, and it was not visible in any of the pictures. I still love him and he’s a great bun, but that definitely seems like something she should have mentioned!!

As someone who adopted a dog with IBD that was known but not disclosed, I’m definitely annoyed at the rescue, but also know I wouldn’t have adopted her knowing about it, so… well played, rescue.

this reminds me of one of the rescue programs near me UGH. they’re extremely well known in my city but will not disclose bite history… my friend adopted a dog from them who had a bite history, he had no idea of this and she ended up biting someone, so he called them and they’re like yeah she’s bitten other people before 💀 he’s had this dog for awhile and is still dealing with paperwork + trying to sue it’s ridiculous

Went to adopt a dog with my bf. We got there after reading online about the dog. They said he was supper relaxed & loved to cuddle. We get there & the dog tried to bite my bf but was completely fine with me. I asked the lady if the dog had met men before. She said not that she was aware of. Like lady don’t you think you should put that on the website 😭
