UPDATE: According to reports, President Museveni who is also the fountain of honour has given a directive to Kampala Minister Minsa Kabanda instructing her to put together a team of KCCA officials and other stakeholders to look into young Kampala billionaire Hajji Hassan Bulwadda’s proposal to repurpose the more than 6 acres of land busy downtown Kampala. Ritah Kaggwa Blog has learnt that Tycoon Bulwadda gave President Museveni his detailed written proposal asking him for powers to utilize Nakivubo Settlement Primary School land by putting up new skyscrappers, create employment and change the appearance of that part of Kampala city which is seen as a ghetto and a den of kifeesi gangs. The billionaire further informed the president that his project is to be called Bulwadda National Skilling Centre & Shopping Complex. The skilling centre will impart vocational skills onto thousands of women and youth living or residing in the densely-populated adjacent slums of Kisenyi and Katwe. So, on Thursday, Minsa Kabanda visited the school to assess the state in which it is. It has been declining over the years due to neglect to the extent that the 82 resilient students who are still there, are studying/learning under very squalid conditions. Minsa Kabanda, was shocked to learn from staff and school managers that Nakivubo Settlement still has asbestos roof, which makes learners susceptible to non-communicable diseases like deadly cancer among other health-related vulnerabilities. Minsa Kabanda was with several other leaders and stakeholders, including Hajji Bulwadda who was flanked by Hajji Musa Lubwama, one of the employees of his real estate company.
