@donjackoghue: The last few weeks have proven what many of us were already feeling: we’re beyond hungry for an alternative app that doesn’t suck us dry, mine our data, and leave us feeling disconnected from the fab community that we are in real life. I can’t believe we’re really doing it! And we’re almost at our goal of €150K. Hitting it will ensure that we are able to build out the app in a secure way that aligns with our mission and gives our community what it deserves. Will you help us get there? It may sound cheesy, but I like to imagine the fully built-out Meetmarket as a fab, all-friends-welcome queer rave where everyone can find their own corner of the party: an outside area to catch a smoke and hear some gossip (chatrooms), a section of the dance floor to let your moves and freak flag fly (personal profile). And duh, a massive fucking darkroom for those more anonymous encounters (the grid). Rather than reduce online queer sociality to an extractive-feeling space where no one trusts each other, Meetmarket’s “corners” will mimic what I love about going out — a space where community and hookups go together. The response is wild. In just 27 days, Meetmarket has been passed around the internet taking loads of founding members (good boy), plus we’ve been featured everywhere from WIRED and Queerty to BUTT magazine. The momentum is rolling and at this rate (with just 3 days left) it would really suck to miss out on becoming part of the nearly 1,000 founding members. Sure, this sounds like a sales pitch but think about it for a second: Meetmarket is 100% happening (thanks to many of you!!), so now’s the time for stragglers to hop on the gay bus before it leaves town without you. Milk your group chat. Hit up your exes. Meetmarket is a community and a movement, and we’re going to change the way queer people connect online. Let’s build a bigger, better, gayer, future! We’re almost there babe, don’t make us finish alone.
