@amechi.mama: Somewhere along the way, we started calling it “doing it all.” But the truth is, many parents are raising children without the built-in support systems that once made the hard days a little lighter. We’re expected to work, parent, manage the household, remember everything, and somehow never drop the ball. We’ve become so individualistic as a society that many of us barely know our neighbors anymore. I don’t know what happened. Maybe it was the internet. Maybe it was the pace of life. Maybe it was both. Sometimes I wish I could go back to a world where kids played outside with the neighborhood until the streetlights came on. A world where people looked out for one another, where doors stayed open, where someone checked in just because they cared. Now life feels so demanding that we’re all running on empty, trying to survive our own schedules, and forgetting that community is what got people through the hard seasons.
