@bluetsunami2026: Cats: The Jellicle Ball the Musical is a queer reimagining of the classical musical but on glitter heroine, and it is an ascending experience! It brings fierceness, euphoria, electricity, queerness, and outlandishness to a NYC’s ballroom set where these pussy cats strut their pose, pahhty their tails off, bring the audience to their feet, and sang, girl do they sang!!...dance…girl, do they dance!!...and work…do they werk it! The creative team behind this brilliantly reinterprets the Cats story into the world of real-life queer ballroom culture. If you want to pahhhhty, this is the musical that should be on top of your list. If you ever wanted to be part of that underground vogue Pose-offs with Billy Porter, you gotta get your fan and clock it, get yo tail off the couch and get this serving of pure joy. The storyline is simple, the Jellicle Cats gather for the BIG event, the Jellicle Ball, a massive, high-energy dance sequence where the cats introduce themselves and compete, not just for fun, to prove they possess a ‘soul,’ to showcase their identity, their worth, and their unique place within the tribe, hoping to earn the blessing of the elder and leader of their clan, Old Deuteronomy (the diva himself, André De Shields) who will choose one cat to ascend to the Heaviside Layer and be reborn. The Ball is a test of performance and community. This is the most memorable song from the original Cats that gets me every time, the number "Memory," by Grizabella sung by the ubah talented "Tempress" Chasity Moore. I have seen some of the greats sing this song like Betty Buckley, Jennifer Hudson, & Nicole Scherzinger, but what Chasity does to spin her own divah magic to this song is show her vulnerability and brings profound authenticity to the outcast glamour cat through the lens of her owns experiences in NY’s LGBTQ+ ballroom culture. Sit back and watch purrrfection. Bow down! As we celebrate Pride month, less not us forget that within all of this beauty they have created on stage, the dance, runway, and performance categories served as literal tools for survival, self-expression, and chosen family, elevating the original Jellicle gathering into a safe, empowering space for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC individuals. Can someone explain to me what this scene even means? Like how in the original show it’s about her wanting to be back in the cat pack, what is it in this context?

her version gives me the most emotion idc. it think its because of the lower key that she can pour more emotion into it which makes me feel each lyric much more.

I’ve been listening to the cats soundtrack since I was about eight and this is the first and only time that I not only understood what this song truly meant, but it moved me to tears. She was incredible.

I adore this. With the new key, Tempress isn’t straining to hit the notes like other Grizabellas. She sounds like she is literally singing through her tears, through her heartache. It is utterly heartbreaking. She should have gotten a Tony for this performance!

This could be controversial, but this is not impressive. The lower key? The song was written with purpose and the key was integral. And if you listen to her closely, she is off key for a lot of the song. Sorry. Just not a fan.
