Thunder is a sonic boom. The huge blast in Kissimmee was a massive sonic boom from a positive lightning strike. Because these bolts are miles long, the sound from the top arrives later than the bottom, making the boom last a really long time. - I actually went to college for science.

Thunder storm is common in Florida but the lightning has had a different twist to it . The acoustics of the thunder has a sharp edge to it but I think it’s related to the humidity being super high it’s reflective sound is different. Explosive in nature .
