The professors black so your points void, also even if he was black he has more understanding of linguistics than you, speaking English doesn't mean you know more than an English professor, also whether it's aave or not doesn't matter because it still doesn't have any hidden meanings, also the term isn't specific to an African American's vernacular.

we've been saying it since we were kids. AAVE is english. but the meaning is different. if I said "you better than me" its not a compliment. when my mom said "do it again" that means stop immediately.

AAVE and slang are not the same thing first of all. Second…ASK US!! Tf! AAVE is a linguistic structure and we need to stop referring to the way we speak as AAVE because we are not a STUDY to be dissected and be told and have to argue about what is what. It’s a very European way of looking at humans. It’s not AAVE but it’s a common black slang phrase. Nevertheless….we don’t gotta explain to nobody what a phrase means about when we’re defending ourselves.

The fact that apparently only black people understand what that means kind proves that it is AAVE.

The African American Rhetorical Tradition
This style of speaking falls under a broader tradition in AAVE and Black culture known as signifying or using indirectness.
The speaker says the opposite of what they want ("go ahead, do it") to make the underlying threat of punishment or retaliation completely clear.
It relies on shared cultural understanding, tone, and context to convey the true message.
