@donshealthandfitness: I stayed in this supported bridge (pontoon pose) variation for 5 minutes and this is what is happening. - Places the psoas and front body in a gentle lengthened position - Encourages extension through the thoracic spine - Creates more space for the diaphragm and breath The psoas, diaphragm and pelvic floor are deeply connected. When one area softens, the whole system often breathes and moves more freely. A simple antidote to hours of sitting, driving and looking down. Sometimes posture changes more through support than effort. Stay for 5 minutes and let the pose do the work. - Follow along for more restorative tips. #YogaForWomenOver40 #RestorativeYoga #PerimenopauseSupport
I just did the stretch for seven minutes. I used two yoga blocks to substitute for the bolster. Probably not the best but it worked. The yoga blocks are 9 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches deep or high. I laid them flat on the surface of my yoga mat so that they were 4 inches high and 18 inches long. To more or less mimic the rough size of the bolster pillow. I spent the first two minutes sort of adjusting the top of my hips. That's why I ended up extending my instruction to Alexa for a five minute timer to two additional minutes. When I got up, I did feel as if the muscles had relaxed considerably. I am 71 years old, weigh 165 pounds and I am 5'7" tall. I've had this issue since I was about 45 years old, despite working out pretty regularly with weights and despite walking 4 to 6 miles 3 to 5 times per week. As a matter of fact, "in line" work like walking or light jogging, or using my Jacobs Ladder climbing machine, actually seem to exacerbate the problem. I'm learning that there's some lateral movements that I need to create a program from to help strengthen some of those smaller muscles inside the pelvic girdle. At least that's what I think. I've been several physical therapist and personal trainers, after seeing orthopedic surgeons then initially gave me fluoroscopic steroid injections and then recommended surgery despite the fact that I have no disc injuries and only very minor stenosis in a couple of the lower vertebrae. I also have some bone on bone knee arthritis especially in my left knee. My problems with sciatica and low back pain are almost always on the right side. My husband was a PT and believed that the pain was caused by the arthritic left knee being worse than the right knee, resulting in an imbalance that strained the muscles on the right side of my body. But I keep looking at TikTok videos on low back pain caused by weak, strained muscles and I'm beginning to think that that's really my problem at its core. Anyway, I hope this info helps both other users like me as well as this creator. This stretch was a really good stretch but I don't think it's gonna solve the overall problem. It'll be more like immediate but short-term relief
