My dad actually did the same thing with me and my sister during the summers we weren’t allowed to go out and hang out with friends until we clean the house from top to bottom every Saturday morning. I am so grateful for that because my apartment is now completely spotless and I get so many compliments on how organized and cleanly my house is every single day of the week.🥰🥰🥰🥰

Urgh this is so nice to hear! My 12 year old son and me are having reallllllll issues with basic tasks! I feel the fake it happiness haha! Told him this summer I want him to spend atleast 1 hour outside before he plays video games, he can do whatever he wants in that hour I don’t care as long as it’s out of my house 😂

I was raised this way. I STILL treat my parents and their stuff with the utmost respect. I am trying my darndest to raise my kids this way too. It has nothing to do with money it’s about doing the right thing!!!!!!

What I don’t understand is how wildly different kids are. My oldest is like your son who didn’t walk the dogs or take care of anything. My middle child would have had the house in better shape than I left when I got home. I’m realizing I need different strategies for different kids when it comes to teaching responsibility and accountability.

did you set the expectations of what he was supposed to do while you were gone? the way you worded it seemed like he was just coincidentally staying home so you didn’t have to hire a sitter. maybe he wasn’t aware that the job was passed to him?
