@georgialouiseharrison: Today I had the opportunity to ask the Prime Minister a question at Downing Street. With new social media restrictions for under-16s being announced, I wanted to ask about something bigger: the culture of misogyny that exists online. Creating distance between young people and harmful algorithms is an important step. But when those young people eventually come online, what are we doing about the misogyny, abuse and harmful narratives that will still be there waiting for them? The Government has said education will play a key role, and I believe that must include teaching young people about the manipulative messages pushed by the manosphere, the realities of intimate image abuse, and the impact online misogyny has on women and girls. Instead of focusing on the people who might find ways around this legislation, we should acknowledge what this represents: after years of pressure, campaigning and public demand, big tech companies are finally being forced to take responsibility. This won’t be perfect overnight. Real change rarely is. But protecting young people isn’t just about delaying their access to social media. It’s about changing the culture they’ll eventually log into. #socialmediaban
