Rin was following his own obsession not his ego. His fear of being thrown away does not follow Ego’s philosophy. Rin has been always chasing Sae and Isagi which is NOT ego. A perfect example of this is the difference between Barou and Rins ego which are very similar but completely different at the same time . While Barou is also chasing Isagi, he’s only using him to mass produce goals and will throw him away at a moments notice to find someone else when he wants to score. Rin’s ego on the other hand is driven by the obsession and fear of being thrown away, which is why Ego said he was doubting himself from being number 1. While it is true that Ego wants people to always have a score first mentality with their egos, he also knows the difference between idealistic risk and blind stupidity, shown from his reaction at Yukimiya’s shot that was blocked by Chris prince.

Rin was sent to the bench because he did not overcome his obsession with isagi because Rin had a training to control his destructive mode and to be able to enter this mode whenever he wanted but he tried to steal isagi's goal not because he thought it was rational or that it would work simply because he saw that he was being left behind by isagi and went to steal the goal for being the isagi who was going to score if it was anyone else he would not go there and for having failed to control his destroyer mode and also having ruined the play Of a companion and that cost him the victory he was sent to the bench. The reason Rin is getting dropped from the starting XI is because his “Ego” is dependent on Isagi/Sae. His ego and flow is all about crushing Isagi/Sae. When Ego said there was one player who didn’t believe they are the world’s best he meant Rin. Rin constantly thinks that him and Isagi will compete for being the number 1. He always thinks about someone else as well as himself.

Rin was the only player to not believe that he could be the best. That last ditch effort he did with isagi was him being scared of being left behind, not because he wanted to be the best. Both Karasu and Isagi still followed Ego’s philosophy, even though they didn’t quite intend to.
