I am a bioethicist and I have a question for you (respectfully). You said that one of the problems with Jiankui’s work is that the changes would be passed on to future generations. But, it seems to me that the technology doesn’t just disappear after use. That if there are unwanted side effects we could use the technology again on the next generation. That certainly wouldn’t mean there’s no problem with the people who were modified - on that I think this rhetoric about heritability is a bit of an appeal to a worry that is easily solvable with the same technology. Am I missing something?
